Solarize South Bend

Solarize South Bend was created to make it more affordable to reduce electricity bills with solar energy.

The initiative was designed to make it easier, faster, and cheaper to go solar through a group discount and rebate and educational workshops.

Although the Solarize initiative is now closed, our volunteers may re-assemble to provide educational workshops if there is demand.

MORE INFORMATION

- Resources: See the City of South Bend Office of Sustainability solar webpage for more!

- Social Media: Solarize South Bend is on Facebook. And we were featured on WNDU!

- Energy Efficiency:

Have you switched to LED light bulbs? Do you have a programmable thermostat? Consider what you can do to become more energy efficient, especially if you use more than the average Indiana home (11,000 kWh). Check out I&M/AEP's Electric Ideas Program which provides rebates, home energy checkups, discounts on energy savings products, appliance recycling information, and more.

- Pay It Forward:

The Solarize team in South Bend also encouraged supporters to donate to the Near Northwest Neighborhood, Inc. It's important to recognize that homeowners with financial means and other property owners are better able to benefit from solar energy, due to constraints on how projects can be paid for over time. Funds raised will support energy efficiency in affordable housing, and potentially the expansion of their rooftop solar system!

Description of Solarize 2017 [Now Closed]:

Why go solar together with Solarize South Bend? Many people like the idea of having solar panels on their homes but feel daunted by their lack of knowledge about solar or worry that solar may not be a sound investment. Others can’t make the time to find a reputable solar contractor or fear that they’ll receive a poor price or product. Still others may not see going solar as something that regular folks do.

Through Solarize, the independent steering committee of retired engineers, sustainability professionals, solar owners, city and MACOG staff, and passionate volunteers has done the legwork for you. No member of the steering committee will benefit financially in any way from your participation. But we will be happy to catalyze the growth of clean energy locally and help bring the benefits of solar energy to others!
